Tourism boost in Leicestershire. One Million more visitors to Leicestershire according to newly released figures in 2016.

Leicester City Council have announced this week Leicester and Leicestershire had 33 million visitors during 2016; up by one million from the previous year. Figures published during the summer report 10.81 million people visited the City in comparison with 10.36 million in 2015. Tourism, the City Council announce is now worth more than £600 million to the city's economy.

Across Leicestershire, the City Council advise there has been a 15% increase in the number of jobs in the tourism sector over the last 6 years with approximately 7500 people now working in the industry.

The City Council tourism figures are taken from the 2016 Scarborough Tourism Economic Activity Monitor (STEAM) survey.
