Public consultation on a revised improvement scheme for the 'Pork Pie' roundabout has started.

Public consultation on a revised improvement scheme for the 'Pork Pie' roundabout and Glen Hills Way gets underway this week.

Drawings for the proposed scheme are on display from today at Southfields Library. The drawings will also go on display at Aylestone Leisure Centre from 10.30am on Friday 20th October. Both exhibitions continue until Monday 6th November, visitors are advised to check opening times with the venues.

Local people will have the chance to discuss the plans and see the drawings at two further events, where council officers and contractors will be attending. These take place on Tuesday 17th October 4pm-7.45pm at Montrose School, Wigston Lane, and the United Reform Church Hall on Glenhills Way/Saffron Lane junction On Wednesday 1st November 4pm- what 8pm.

Earlier this year councillors rejected a proposed improved scheme for the roundabout, Glenhills Way and Attlee Way, because local people were unhappy with plans to widen the road.

The plans have been revised so that Glen Hill Way does not have to be widened. Other proposals include around 120 trees to be planted on both sides of Glen Hills Way, and other noise reductions measures on the northern side of the road near Sharpland. Traffic flows will be revised on a section of Southfields Drive, to stop drivers using it as a 'rat-run', and pedestrian crossings will be upgraded (at Pasley Road and Aylestone Drive) and a new crossing installed at Sturdee Road. There are also plans to add a further layer of tarmac to a section of Saffron Lane. This is in addition to the resurfacing work between Trennant Road and the Pork Pie roundabout taking place from 15th October to 1st November 2006.

Comments from the public consultation will be included in the report for councillors to consider, when they make a final decision on the revised scheme early in 2007.
