Cllr. Roger Blackmore said, "This rather vicious robbery happened in broad day light and its very important that the perpetrators are caught as soon as possible."

Police are appealing for witnesses following a robbery on Western Park.

The robbery happened at around 3.30pm on Wednesday April 30, as a 16-year-old boy made his way home through the park on his bicycle.

The victim was then approached by two youths who asked him for the time. As the victim continued to cycle, one of the youths then hit him on the head with a metal pole, causing him to fall to the floor and knocking him unconscious.

As the victim woke up he saw the youth, who hit him, leave the park on his bicycle. The second youth then demanded he hand over his mobile phone and then also left the park.

Both youths made off in the direction of Glenfield Road.

The victim attended the Leicester Royal Infirmary for treatment to a cut on his head.

The first youth who left with the bike, is described as white, around 5'9" tall, aged around 16 to 17-years-old and of a slim build. He was wearing blue or black tracksuit bottoms; a white sports t-shirt and was carrying a metal bar which was about one and half feet in length.

The second youth is described as white, around 6'3" tall, aged around 16 to 17-years-old and of a big build. He has very short brown hair and was wearing a tracksuit.

The bike is described as a black Sarecen XILE mountain bike. It has a red band running around the back tyre and the hand grips have flame patterns on them. The front wheel is a Motor Digger brand tyre.

The mobile phone taken was a black Samsung slide phone.

Cllr. Roger Blackmore, the Lib Dem councillor for the area said, "This rather vicious robbery happened in broad day light and its very important that the perpetrators are caught as soon as possible."
