Secondary Schools Continued To Improve in Leicester

League tables published today show that Leicester's secondary schools have continued to improve.

This year the government has ranked schools and local authorities using a new measure of 5+A*-C including English and mathematics.

Six schools in the city have outperformed the national average on this measure, with Judgemeadow Community College reaching 55% compared to the national average of 46%.

Leicester City is also doing well using this new measure, moving up to 134 out of 149 local authorities, up one place from the previous year.

Six Leicester schools have performed better than the national average using the old measure, with the City of Leicester College and Judgemeadow Community College achieving a top score of 65% 5+A*-C, compared to the national average of 59%.

Riverside Community College is celebrating being in the top 200 most improved schools nationally based on 5+A*-C including English and Mathematics GCSE, measured between 2003 and 2006.

Councillor Hussein Suleman, Lib Dem Cabinet Lead for Children & Young People's Services, said: "The results published today show another move in the right direction. "We are determined that the support offered to schools through our new Strategy for School Improvement continues to build on this success".
