Liberal Democrat Leicester City Council is investing £10 thousand in the alarms for 15 communal areas in the city's sheltered housing schemes.

The two sheltered housing schemes in the Freemen Ward are to be the first to have the new alarms fitted. Cllr Carlym Sandringham (right) who is one of the councillors for Freemen Ward said: " I am pleased that this work is being done at Frederick Thorpe House and Cromwell House. This visual alarm will help to alert people to danger more quickly in the communal area. "

All flats in the city's sheltered housing schemes have smoke alarms and flashing lights that come on during an emergency. They are also connected to the LeicesterCare emergency alarm system, through which residents can call for help 24-hours-a-day.
