£45 million worth of money will be spent on Leicester Schools over the next two years.

This is a combination of Government and local council cash as well as one-off regeneration grants - All will help build new schools, replace old mobile classrooms and improve sports facilities.

Lib Dem Leicester City Council has finalised details of the budget and outlined the schools which will benefit between now and the next financial year.

The plans include:

The completion of two new schools in Braunstone - (Queensmead opening in September this year).

The replacement of Taylor Road Primary School in St Matthews.

A package to improve sports facilities at Sir Jonathan North Community College and a sports hall at the City of Leicester School.

The creation of eight children's centres where children can learn out of school.

A programme to expand the number of primary school places in Hamilton and Humberstone.

A mobile classroom replacement programme.

And a project to reduce overcrowding at Sparkenhoe Primary School in Highfields.

Lib Dem Spinneyhill Councillor Hussein Suleman, who is the Cabinet member for Education , said: "We take education seriously, we are not just building one school, but several schools around the city."
